My Journey

 

 

Our story starts with a familiar journey – navigating various careers in pursuit of happiness, yet never quite stumbling upon it! My journey led me through different paths in lifeguarding, swim teaching, Sussex javelin coaching, retail, car sales, and banking. However, amid these transitions, a lasting love for woodwork endured.

The turning point came during the tumultuous period of Covid-19. Losing my job at a car dealership due to the country's lockdown resulted in an unexpected opportunity – a temporary position as a driver for a firewood/sawn timber company. Days turned into months, forming a comfortable cocoon and dimming aspirations.

However, amidst the unhurried rhythm of those local driving days, something profound transpired. Encircled by wood, I rekindled a passion that had lain dormant for quite some time. Designs flowed effortlessly, and the idea of crafting unique pieces assumed a central role in my mind.

Fuelled by a newfound determination, a timeline was established to depart from familiar comforts and embark on the path of becoming an independent furniture maker – a pursuit I had often questioned why it hadn't happened sooner. Nevertheless, fate had its own agenda and extended a helping hand. Peculiar dynamics unfolded within the company – attitudes shifted, personnel underwent changes, and friendships morphed into something subtly distinct. Forced to depart abruptly due to unforeseen circumstances, it served as an unexpected catalyst and the encouragement necessary for a fresh start.

Presently, Where Wood Works stands as a testament to resilience and passion. Equipped with a dedicated workshop, an online platform, and an array of social media pages/profiles, along with a portfolio exuding pride and passion, I wake up every morning with an eagerness to craft something that will be cherished for a lifetime.
